Postby Denise » Thu Jan 31, 2008 12:03 pm

Kulla Dog Training and Oak Spring Kennels are proud to host a
Training Helper Seminar
March 1-2, 2008 | Poplar Grove, IL
This seminar will cover all aspects of protection work with a concentration on safe
and correct training techniques and theories. This seminar will not address trial
helper work, but instead will concentrate on the development and training of dogs in
the protection phase from puppy to adult, including problem-solving in all areas.
Topics covered will include:
• Drive-building and prey development
• Development of proper gripping and countering behavior
• Eliciting and shaping barking behavior
• Balancing drives (prey/defense/fight)
• Teaching the hold and bark
• Teaching/maintaining the out
• Promoting striking behavior
• Secondary work (blind searches, side transport, rear transport)
• Problem-solving: primary work (barking/biting)
• Problem-solving: secondary work (control)
About the instructor:
Take advantage of this opportunity to train with Bill Kulla, a multiple-time FCI and
WUSV World team member, national, competitor and events helper and, most
importantly, excellent training helper. As a training helper and coach, Bill has helped
countless handlers train and title their dogs of various breeds in the sport of
Schutzhund. Many of these teams have gone on to compete successfully in regional,
national and international working events. Bill has also helped develop many
excellent training and trial helpers across the country.
About the facility:
Seminar will be held in a fully lit indoor facility with sand floor for optimum safety for
dogs, helpers and handlers. All levels of experience welcome.

Good morning Mr. Baker. You should come on out. Bill and Jennifer are actually having the seminar here at our kennel. If the weather permits we'll be outside. We've got a clubhouse with full kitchen and washroom facility, no porta potty here, real running water. Also have a lighted field for night work and a 55'x45' fully lit sand bottom building for the indoor secondary and short blind work. Promises to be very informative, Bill's credentials as a helper are unparalleled. He's the best at building solid grip behavior and powerful guarding. Should be a good time to start the new season. That video clip that Dana so graciously helped me post is the father of my new young dog. Good stuff.

Phil,

Can you direct me to the video Dana posted? Sorry, haven't been able to find it. Also, do you have any clips of Taureau?

Have fun hosting the seminar. It sounds like your new kennel is really up and going. Congratulations with it. It's alot of work! Many moons ago I attended training at Kraftwerk K9 (Wayne Curry's place) and Bill was doing helper work and did very good work.

Here is the home page. Click on the thumbnail to the right. It's from a video just posted on the 29th of January I believe.

As far as video of Taureau, I just had Shari burn me a couple of CD's of short clips taken with a digital still camera at the Championship. I also am awaiting the arrival of a DVD of his whole routine taken by a friend in California. Should be here shortly. Taureau is a stud. I just got fed up with NARA and decided to come back to the friendlier world of SchH. It was a quick year but Taureau and I had a pretty good run and working with him was huge fun. If every Malinois was as solid and gripped like him, life would be easy.

No man. Running a marathon that weekend in Cincy. When I hit mile marker 18 I'll think of how easy it would be working dogs instead. Not sure if Mike B. will be there or not.
